Apple Pie

I don't know where the recipe came from for this apple pie, but since my sister-in-law Krista has made it so many times we call it "Krista's Apple Pie". It's the best I've ever tasted. While Krista makes her own crust, the Dough Boy helps me out & quite deliciously. Maybe one day I'll take the time to make my own. This apple pie is simple & wonderful & the perfect use of some of the delicious apples Will hand picked for me!

8-10 Granny Smith Apples (or any good baking apple)
1 cup sugar
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons flour
1/2 stick of butter, cubed

Peel, core & thinly slice apples. Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon, salt & flour. Pour into pie shell. Top with butter cubes. Put top crust on, seal edges, flute, and cut slits in the top. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes then 350 degrees for 1 hour. Cover pie with foil after it becomes golden brown about after 15 -30 minutes of baking. Cool. Serve warm & with vanilla ice cream, if desired.

  1. side note from 'Krista' - in order for this to be 'Krista's apple pie' you HAVE to use granny smith apples, any others just won't cut it, you need the tart-ness. And Grandma Simons' crust really does make a big difference... just saying...
