Annette's Cornbread

This recipe is from Granny's sister's friend, Annette (got that?). I wrote the recipe down just like Granny has it written down on her notepad. I love this cornbread because it's not sweet. I cannot stand a sweet cornbread! The "hot grease" makes the bottom crispy and delicious. So here is Annette's Cornbread, per Granny.

5 tablespoons self-rising cornmeal
4 tablespoons self-rising flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk

Mix all ingredients together. Pour batter into hot grease to cover skillet (cast iron). Leave on the stove until it bubbles like pancakes. Bake at 400 degrees until it starts to brown, then broil to brown the top as you like it.
